How to Play Strands
The New York Times Strands puzzle is a fun twist on the classic word search. It’s currently in beta, which means it’ll stick around if enough players engage daily. The goal is to find words that share a common theme, which is hinted at in the puzzle.
Each puzzle consists of a 6×8 grid of letters. The aim is to identify a group of related words, and when you find one, it will highlight in blue. Additionally, there’s a special “spangram” that links two opposite sides of the board, and when found, it will be highlighted in yellow.
You can connect letters vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, switching directions as needed. If you find three valid words of at least four letters that aren’t part of the theme, you can unlock the Hint button, which will help you spot a theme word.
